Cool Web Domains

Ever since I've started learning HTML I wanted a website of my own and in fact I did have one until last month but it was a sub-domain which was something like "yoursitename.hostsitename.com". But long url(s) are so not cool and also having to type a long url will put us off in the very first attempt to open it. Ofcourse we can register for a nice domain like .net or .com but it would cost us some amount every year along with the hosting charges, and sometimes we do not get what we actually want. But why should we settle for less when we are paying for it? So I googled to see if there is a solution to this and came across some cool websites that offer us free domains and some which offer free hosting. So when we combine them both voila!!! we have a cool website name which is free along with free hosting. Here goes the list of websites that offer free short domain names:

1) www.co.cc This will redirect your sub-domain to your .co.cc site name.

2) freedomain.co.nr This will redirect your sub-domain to your .co.nr site name.

3) dot.tk This will redirect your sub-domain to your .tk site name.

4) we.bs This is free for a year and it offers free hosting too.

But you should ensure that your website is active and sometimes these websites add banners and pop-ups for their revenue which you should put up with. Some of you must have already used few of these websites, if you didn't, try them and let me know about your experience. Also, if you know about any other free domain-offering websites, or url redirectors, please do share them. Enjoy!!!

How is that different from have a subdomain?

A subdomain is something like your blog address. But these url redirectors give you a short n simple domain name which gives you the feel of a professional .com or .net website. Ofcourse you will be hosting your blog/website in the same way but only the name changes. It is just like buying a .com domain but in this case its free.

Thanks Vyazz. It is always exciting and delightful to have your own domain rather than a sub-domain.

does having these url redirectors mess up the google and yahoo backlinks? If it does, then Im not too sure of having my own domain.. Dont want to start from zero again (yeah.. Im lazy) :)

It doesn't mess anything. Your website will stay just as it is and everything on it will work as usual. Only change is you will have a new short domain name. The redirectors just do that "redirect", they won't steal anything :).
Actually, you can just create a webpage and upload it to some free host and then submit it at one of these websites. That way you'll clearly have an idea as to what's happening. I hope I'm clear enuf.
